NADINE
Before joining the healing circle, I lived without hope. For thirty years, from 1994 until 2024, I carried deep loneliness and a constant sense of disconnection. After the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, I felt abandoned and unseen. Even when I tried to be around others, my heart remained restless. I withdrew from people, convinced that no one cared and that I had no purpose left.
Everything began to change when Community Healing Assistants visited me and invited me to join a healing circle.
In the group, we engaged in honest and meaningful conversations. As I listened to others share their stories, it felt as though they were speaking my own pain. At first, it reopened wounds I had long buried. But gradually, I found the courage to speak. When I shared my story and felt truly heard, something shifted inside me. For the first time in decades, I felt seen. I realized I was not alone.
The session on restoring inner peace marked a turning point. I began to regain energy and strength. I admired others who had endured immense suffering yet continued to persevere. Through the discussions, I learned patience, empathy, and how to rebuild broken relationships—especially within my own family. I began to feel calm again. I reconnected with others and started contributing confidently in community discussions.
Recently, I was elected village leader—something I once believed was impossible. Before joining the group, I doubted my abilities and avoided responsibility. Today, I trust myself and have confidence in serving others.
The physical healing exercises also transformed my life. Practices such as “Painting the Spring” relieved the chest and back pain I had carried for years. I can now bend, work, and move freely without discomfort.
Through the program, I also learned practical skills—how to save, plan, and improve my livelihood. I now look to the future with faith and determination.
This healing circle changed my life. It restored my confidence, strengthened my relationships, and renewed my sense of purpose. I hope this program reaches many more Rwandans who are still struggling in silence, because healing begins when we come together.
